Jamie Vardy quashes Arsenal rumours by signing new Leicester contract – Twitter reacts

Jamie Vardy has agreed a four-year contract extension with Leicester City, the Premier League winners .

Vardy has decided to turn down a move to Arsenal after the club agreed an improved four-year deal with the striker’s representatives. The contract will be signed when the 29-year-old returns from Euro 2016.

The England striker will now lead the Champions League charge for Claudio Ranieri’s English top flight champions next season, dealing a transfer blow to Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who will now be forced to turn his attention elsewhere.

Vardy scored an incredible 24 goals in 36 Premier League appearances last term, during which time he broke Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record for goals scored in consecutive matches.

This news comes as a huge boost for Ranieri’s side, who were preparing for somewhat of an exodus over the coming months, with several of last season’s title-winning stars expected to move on to pastures new.

Nonetheless, the decision made by Vardy to remain at the King Power Stadium could encourage the majority of his team-mates to follow suit – a sentiment that will be music to the ears of Foxes’ supporters.

A Leicester City club statement read: “Leicester City have today agreed with the representatives of Jamie Vardy to extend the England international’s contract with the Premier League champions for a further four years.

Here is how Twitter reacted to news of the Leicester forward’s new contract:
