Jamie Redknapp praises Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum after weekend winning goal

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp was full of praise for Georginio Wijnaldum after his goal sealed all three points for the Reds against Sheffield United on Saturday.

As per the Redknapp feels that the £75,000-a-week () Dutchman is capable of bailing out Jurgen Klopp’s front three when they aren’t quite firing.

He : “Liverpool have 23 goals this season already but their winner at Sheffield United was the first by a midfielder, and it was no surprise to see Georginio Wijnaldum score the all-important goal.

“He is immense in midfield and if Liverpool are to win the title, their fans will be looking to him to deliver when the front three are not firing.”

TBR’s View – Wijnaldum perhaps as close as Liverpool have to a goalscoring midfielder

Much has been made of Liverpool’s lack of a playmaker since Philippe Coutnho left but the role of the central midfielders is more about working hard to liberate the front three to score at will.

They don’t have a regular goalscorer from midfield either – Wijnaldum is probably as close as it gets, and he has been converted from an attacking playmaker into a more rounded central operator under Klopp.

But as Redknapp says, Liverpool will need an alternative source of goals on the rare occasions when the front three don’t fire. It’s promising that Wijnaldum has a habit of cropping up with those important goals.
