Jamie Redknapp gives his opinion on Dominic Solanke’s display for Tottenham vs Coventry City

Dominic Solanke is yet to score for Tottenham Hotspur since joining the club in a £65m deal from Bournemouth during the summer transfer window.

The England international has shown flashes of his brilliance and got himself into good positions, but it just hasn’t happened for him in front of goal.

Solanke led the attack for Spurs in their EFL Cup clash against Coventry City and drew a blank again, making it three games without a goal for Tottenham since his transfer.

And now, Jamie Redknapp believes Tottenham aren’t making it easy for Solanke as he attempts to break his duck for his new club.

Spurs came from behind to beat Coventry City 2-1 in the EFL Cup thanks to late goals from Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson, with Solanke chosen to lead the line before being substituted in the second half.

Redknapp feels the Englishman has flattered to deceive at his new club largely due to the fact that his teammates haven’t created enough chances for him as he questioned the lack of creativity in Ange Postecoglou’s side.

“I think he has to find his best 11 now,” said Redknapp on .

“With Bissouma being injured, what is his best midfield? How will he find some creativity in this team for Dominic Solanke? At the moment there has been none at all.

“He had no supply whatsoever in the period he was on with Brennan Johnson and Werner. Maddison is that player who can unlock a door, he’s been okay so far this season, but it hasn’t really clicked for them.

“It’s been so poor in wide areas. Solanke’s had nothing, it’s hard for him to get any supply line. For Spurs, it’s been a really tough watch. They’ve been really disappointing.”

Postecoglou felt Solanke did alright against Arsenal despite not scoring but admits the 26-year-old is still building up his fitness after suffering an ankle injury at the start of the season.

Solanke’s stats vs Coventry

Solanke played 62 minutes and had 24 touches of the ball as he made one key pass and completed as many dribbles against Coventry.

While it was yet another industrious display, he didn’t have too much to do in front of goal as he earned himself a rating of 6.9.

Rafael van der Vaart said after the Arsenal game that Solanke is ‘nothing special’ and cost too much money, which is a rather harsh assessment of the player considering he’s only played four times for the club.

That said, the 26-year-old needs to find his shooting boots soon to ease the pressure on his shoulders and endear himself to the fans.
