Jamie Redknapp admits he can’t quite believe how good 24-year-old Spurs player has been
Jamie Redknapp suggested that Pedro Porro deserved a special mention after Tottenham Hotspur’s emphatic win over Newcastle United on Sunday, admitting that the defender has proved him completely wrong this season.
Redknapp was speaking on (broadcast on 10/12; 18:44) after Spurs blew the Magpies away, getting back to winnin𓆉g ways with a 4-1 victo𝔉ry.
Son Heung-min was the star of the show. Meanwhile, Richarlison would have got a big boost to his confidence by scoring twice. But Jamie Redknapp did not want the display of Pedro Porro to go under the radar.
Jamie Redknapp amazed by Pedro Porro display
It was the Spaniard who set up Richarlison’s second goal, dinking a beautiful ball over Jamaal Lascelles for th🍃e forward to tuck home. And remarkably, the 24-year-old now has four assists in his ♒last five games.

It is almost easy to forget now but Porro had a really difficult꧋ first few months at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He certainly struggled to find the form which persuaded Spurs to pay Sporting around .
But he has been a d♔ifferent player this season. And Redknapp suggested that he is one of those who has to hold his hands up and admit that he did not see this coming.
“I think Pedro Porro deserves a special mention because this game would have been one of the toughest last year, when he played ꦛagainst Newcastle in the 🐈6-1 away from home,” he told . “He played in a back four. And I remember saying after the game, Stellini at the time had taken over from Conte, he changed the system, went to a back four, and I remember thinking, he can’t play in a back four. It’s impossible.
“But he can. He’s not just play🎶ing in a back four, he’s going in as an inverted full-back. He is looking like a really good player right now. And I didn’t see that at the time, I thought his performances, and he only could play in a back three when he signed for Tottenham.
“That was a big performance from him, not just today, but all seaso💖n. And again, the manager deserves a lot of credit with what he’s done with him🐟.”
As many assists as James Maddison
In fairness, it would appear that Ange Postecoglou himself had a couple of reservati๊ons about Porro ahead of this𒉰 campaign.
It was Emerson Royal who started the opening day draw with Brentford. Porro was not even brought off the bench at the Gtech Commun🔥ity Stadium.
Now he appears to be an absolutely vital cog in the Tottenham machine. A༺nd Porro now has as many assists as James Maddison this season.
