Jamie O’Hara says £40m Tottenham player did not look happy after what Ange Postecoglou did against West Ham

Jamie O’Hara believes one Tottenham Hotspur player wasn’t happy after being taken off by Ange Postecoglou last night.

Tottenham picked up a 1-1 draw at West Ham on Tuesday evening but will be disappointed with the result.

Ange Postecoglou’s men dominated for large periods of the game but were unable to build on a bright start at the London Stadium.

Spurs looked set to net a second goal after Brennan Johnson opened the scoring inside the opening five minutes.

Heung-min Son went close and the Lilywhites continued to take up dangerous positions. But in what is proving to be their Achilles heel this term, Postecoglou’s men conceded from a corner in the 20th minute.

Despite the setback, Spurs continued to search for a winner but struggled to create clear-cut opportunities in the second half.

And as they searched for that winning goal, it was a surprise to see James Maddison replaced by Dejan Kulusevski in the 70th minute.

O’Hara thinks Maddison was annoyed after being subbed off

Speaking on , O’Hara claimed that while Maddison isn’t the type of player to throw his toys out of the pram, he feels the midfielder was visibly annoyed after being taken off.

“Maddison taken off again and didn’t look happy,” the former Spurs man said. “And he’s not one to throw his toys out the pram I don’t think Maddison.

“He holds himself quite well when he gets dragged, but he doesn’t look the happiest in getting taken off.

“It’s a strange one for me in a game like that when the game opens up at the end like a sort of basketball match.

“Maddison’s kind of the guy you want on the ball in in a moment where you need one killer pass.”

James Maddison’s stats for Tottenham

Maddison enjoyed a blistering start to his Spurs career after his move from Leicester City over the summer.

The Englishman managed two goals and five assists in his first 10 Premier League games for Spurs. But the midfielder hasn’t been at his best since returning from an ankle injury in January.

He’s still managed a goal and two assists in his last nine games but he hasn’t recaptured that early-season form as of yet.

With that being said, it was a surprise to see Maddison make way for Kulusevski last night. The 27-year-old seemed to be growing into the game just moments before being taken off.

The sub hardly had the desired effect either as Kulusevski proved to be wasteful in the final third at times.
