Jamie O’Hara makes massive claim about what constitutes success for Tottenham

Jamie O’Hara has made a huge claim about Tottenham’s season.

The TalkSPORT pundit has stated that a bottom half Premier League finish and winning the Carabao Cup would amount to a great season.

This is certainly a claim that will divide Tottenham fans.

The Lilywhites are suffering a nasty trophy drought at the moment.

They haven’t won silverware since 2008, when they won the League Cup final against Chelsea.

However, winning silverware at the cost of a place in the top half of the Premier League is a touch too far.

The Carabao Cup, should Spurs get to the final, amounts to just six games of football in total.

The Premier League season is 38 games, so there’s no reason why Spurs should sacrifice the league for those six games.

If Tottenham end up finishing outside of the top 8, let alone the top 10, this season will be a failure.

Winning a trophy is always the aim for football fans.

However, for a club like Spurs who want to be in Europe, that’s not enough.

Nuno Espirito Santo must recognise that the Carabao Cup is a winnable tournament.

The Lilywhites are into the last eight having played two of the six required games if they’re to win it.

To assume that winning those six games and phoning in a large number of the 38 constitutes success is maddening.

Silverware is what Tottenham are desperate for, but winning it at the expense of fighting for a spot in Europe just isn’t a great season.
