Jamie O’Hara critical of two Tottenham players

Jamie O’Hara has told TalkSPORT (Monday, 8.40am) that Tottenham Hotspur duo Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura are not doing enough for the north London club this season under Jose Mourinho, despite being in and out of the side.

Spurs failed to beat Wolves on Sunday, leaving them in fifth place and with just one win in their last six league games. Lucas was left out of the Spurs squad, while Bergwijn was brought off the bench as Mourinho altered his formation to play 3-5-2.

It saw Son and Kane play up front, but the altercation failed to pay off as Spurs drew 1-1. Bergwijn and Moura have played a combined 22 matches in the Premier League this season, but only managed one goal – Lucas netting against Newcastle.

Despite being asked to do more of a defensive job, Lucas and Bergwijn have had chances to score goals and create. Lucas has netted three times in Europe, but ex-Spurs midfielder O’Hara is critical of the two wingers – urging them to offer more.

“Son is the only player who makes runs,” O’Hara said. “They lack pace without Bergwijn and Moura, but they aren’t doing enough. They aren’t producing much, I need more from them. They’re big players for Spurs, but they aren’t doing enough.”

TBR’s view – Bergwijn and Moura will feel hard done by

At PSV and PSG respectively, Bergwijn and Moura had more freedom to go forward and attack. But since Mourinho has changed Tottenham’s style to play on the counter and the wingers to tuck in and become defensively solid, they lack the chances.

They have been restricted to becoming defensive wingers, which explains why Gareth Bale is not playing. Moura, Bergwijn, Bale and Erik Lamela are also fighting for one place in the team – alongside Son and Harry Kane up top.

A lack of game time, a lack of chances and a lack of momentum means that although they are offering little, they have hardly had the chance to change that. O’Hara’s criticism of Moura and Mourinho signing Bergwijn is right, but also harsh.
