Jamie Carragher thinks £22m midfielder who Tottenham failed to sign has huge potential
Jamie Carragher has now been lauding the potential of a midfielder that Tottenham Hotspur were linked with in January.
Ange Postecoglou is known for his ability to develop young players, and it seemed as if Spurs were identifying a number of high-potential opportunities.

Lucas Bergvall eventually signed for the club on deadline day, a huge coup considering the interest from Barcelona.
But it would be a surprise if Postecoglou and Daniel Levy stopped there when seeking to attract the best young talent to North London.
Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite is a name that is now often mentioned with the summer in mind, a player who’s been regularly demonstrating just how high his ceiling is.
That being said, Spurs were thought to be interested in a deal for Adam Wharton before the midfielder signed for Crystal Palace for in January.
And when speaking on last night, Jamie Carragher mentioned just how impressed he’d already been with Wharton in the Premier League.
Carragher thought the Tottenham linked man has fit in seamlessly at Palace since he joined, saying he’ll be a player spoken about a lot in the future.
Jamie Carragher thinks Tottenham linked Adam Wharton has so much potential
Carragher was particularly impressed with Wharton in his display against Chelsea, and was excited for his future if Palace stay up this season.
He said: “I was impressed with him. It’s another step, he’s a young player.

“This is in the game against Chelsea and I thought he put in a very promising performance that bodes well going forward for Crystal Palace.
“If Palace can stay in the Premier League I think he is a player we are going to be talking about a lot in the future.”
Of course, given the potential that Carragher has rightfully pointed out, Tottenham may feel this one they let slip away.
We might never know just how interested Spurs were in signing Wharton, but either way their talent identification does seem to be working.
And that does bode well considering the strong financial position Tottenham are thought to be in for the coming summer.
Perhaps Postecoglou will push to sign some ambitious targets, starting with a player who is know to be loved by Spurs’ scouting staff.
