Jamie Carragher suggests Liverpool need to improve on current duo

Jamie Carragher has claimed during Sky Sports’ coverage of Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Everton – – that Jurgen Klopp needs to sign players that can improve upon Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino.

Jurgen Klopp made a number of surprising inclusions in his Liverpool starting line-up on Sunday evening, as Andy Robertson, Gini Wijnaldum, Joe Gomez and Mo Salah were notable absences from the team sheet.

Instead, James Milner, Naby Keita, Joel Matip and Minamino all started the match. Japan international Minamino was hooked at half-time against Carlo Ancelotti’s side, while Origi was afforded the final 25 minutes.

Losing two of their previous 25-point lead, Liverpool remain a couple of wins away from Premier League success. Carragher stated that he thinks Liverpool need better cover than Origi and Minamino for the front three.

“The front three are as good as anyone in Europe but whenever one of them is out, there is a massive drop off,” . “That’s why Liverpool need to strengthen the front three.

“Divock Origi is a legend for Liverpool as he’s scored big goals at big moments but doesn’t have quite the quality. Is Minamino part of the front three? Not for me. They could have a real problem next season.”

TBR’s view – Minamino needs time, Origi needs a new challenge

Origi has reached his peak at Liverpool. Scoring a brace against Barcelona in last season’s semi-final comeback and then netting in the final, Origi is a legend – as Carragher states. But he will never be first choice.

For the good of the Belgian’s career, he needs to find a club where he is first choice. Minamino, though, only joined Liverpool halfway through this season and needs a pre-season to get back to his Salzburg best.
