Jamie Carragher shares how Jurgen Klopp could have signed Martin Zubimendi for Liverpool
It has been quite the frustrating summer on Merseyside for Liverpool fans who are still awaiting their first signing of the window.
A new face in the dugout has seen Arne Slot arrive as Jurgen Klopp‘s successor but the Dutchman’s time at Anfield has not exactly got off to an electric start.
When it comes to signings, Liverpool are the only club in the Premier League this summer to have not made a single addition to their squad.
Of course, Slot was going to need the opportunity to assess his options having inherited a squad from Klopp’s time at the club.
But that has not been through a lack of effort with Liverpool making their move for Martin Zubimendi over recent days.

Jamie Carragher says Jurgen Klopp could have signed Martin Zubimendi
The Reds were hit with some frustrating news in their pursuit of what would have been their first summer signing earlier this week.
Zubimendi rejected the opportunity to join Liverpool which now has Slot’s side scratching their heads as to what is next.
However, on the back of the news, Jamie Carragher has suggested has Klopp still been the manager then perhaps the Spaniard would have signed.
“You can’t underestimate how important Jurgen Klopp was in getting players to come,” Carragher said on the .
“So we talk about the transfer committee, and they did this, they did that. What Liverpool are brilliant at is bringing transfer fees in, and that’s nothing to do with the manager.”
“But in terms of bringing people in, I think the manager plays a big role in that. And this is not me having a go at Arne Slot. Obviously, don’t know the guy, but when Virgil van Dijk’s coming to Liverpool, when Liverpool, were at the time, like third/fourth in the league, I think it’s the Klopp factor that gets them.”
“I think there’d be more chance if Jurgen Klopp was there [of signing Zubimendi], maybe just his personality.”
There’s a lot of uncertainties surrounding Arne Slot’s Liverpool
Every club in the Premier League has signed at least one player barring Liverpool.
It is quite a damning statistics considering there is a new manager now in the dugout at Anfield following so many years of Klopp.
That is not to say big changes would have been the way forward, but to not have any new signings through the door to help implement Slot’s philosophy may be a concern.
There’s a lot of uncertainties surrounding Liverpool this season and there are some really important players now into the final 12 months of their deals.
Seeing players like Zubimendi reject Liverpool is something which may not go down well among the senior players at the club.
if Liverpool are to not reach the levels set last season, then there may be some serious chats being had behind the scenes by the players whose contracts are coming to an end.
