Jamie Carragher says Liverpool have three players in their team who ‘can’t run’
If reports are to be believed, Liverpool are edging closer to welcoming Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi as Arne Slot’s first summer signing.
The number six role at Anfield has been an issue for Liverpool ever since Fabinho left last summer, with Jurgen Klopp not able to secure his first choice replacements.
Klopp wanted Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, but was beaten to the duo by Chelsea, meaning Liverpool turned to Wataru Endo instead.
And whilst Endo enjoyed a solid first season in the Premier League, the 31-year-old isn’t quite the player who’s going to win you titles.
Endo can definitely still be effective for Slot over the season, but Liverpool are right to chase a new number six.
Incidentally, Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool won’t stop after signing Zubimendi, suggesting there’s a lot more to come before the end of August.
But evidently, finding a player to sit at the base of Slot’s midfield is still the priority.
And when discussing the situation on , Jamie Carragher shared an interesting conclusion on three current Liverpool players.
Jamie Carragher thinks Liverpool need to avoid signing another Alexis Mac Allister
Carragher initially pointed out the differences he’s noticed since Slot was appointed, and then highlighted an issue he’s noticed with Endo, Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott.
He shared: “I think the interesting thing is that when you look at Arne Slot play it looks a bit more technical than Jurgen Klopp.

“He’s a Dutch coach and when you think about what Jurgen did in that position he brought Fabinho in. I’m not sure Arne Slot is going to bring that type of footballer in.
“I think he wants someone who can get on the ball and play. I thought Mac Allister did that role a lot for Liverpool last season.
“Liverpool definitely lack legs and energy in midfield. If you think about how they finished last season it was Mac Allister, Endo and Harvey Elliott as the midfield three.
“All got great strengths but none of them can run. When I look at that position, I say it’s a fear, I don’t know if Liverpool will bring any in, but if it’s a total footballer will he be too similar to Mac Allister last season, and you lacked that physical presence, that energy to protect the back four.”
Liverpool missed out on Joao Palhinha
Interestingly, when also discussing the matter, Paul Scholes thought Liverpool should have signed Joao Palhinha this summer already.
Palhinha left Fulham for Bayern Munich and Scholes thinks that Slot and his transfer team really missed a trick.
Liverpool have been linked with the Portugal international in the past, but it seemed any interest cooled this summer.
That being said, if Liverpool can overcome two big hurdles to sign Zubimendi, then fans of club will surely be quite content – an excellent talent who definitely has the legs to succeed.
