Jamie Carragher says defender who Tottenham want to buy is ‘really special’
Jamie Carragher has now been discussing just how impressed he’s been with a player Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with for the summer.
Although Ange Postecoglou’s era has begun strongly, it’s clear that his squad will require further strengthening.

Whilst Spurs’ first eleven is now looking very strong, there isn’t great strength in depth in several areas.
That was demonstrated against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, when Emerson Royal and Ben Davies looked slightly awkward in an inverted full-back role.
Both are stellar defenders in their own right, but they don’t have the skill sets to suit the position to the same effectiveness as Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie – who have quickly become two of Postecoglou’s most important players.
With that in mind, Jamie Carragher was discussing a defender that Tottenham would reportedly like to sign this summer on last night’s .
Speaking prior to the game, Carragher was hailing the ability of Jarrad Branthwaite at Everton, saying how crucial he already is.

Carragher spoke about how difficult it can be for a young centre-back playing in the Premier League, but thought Branthwaite was coping admirably.
He said: “I think he is [special]. And what is really special as well is the amount of centre-backs we have in the Premier League aged 21 or younger.

“I remember being a young lad going in myself at Liverpool and it’s an unforgiven position, I had to go to full-back for the next three or four years and then go back to centre-back, so you can see the quality we have.
“Branthwaite has been outstanding, Murillo I think has been outstanding. But I think this lad has been pretty special and he’s a big part of why in my eyes Everton still have a great chance of staying up, him and his partnership with Tarkowski.”
Of course, it is clear to see how the defender would benefit Postecoglou next season.
As well as providing competition for Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, perhaps Branthwaite would also be a versatile option for Postecoglou to use out wide.
Carragher clearly thinks the Everton defender is capable of big things, and a move from Tottenham in the summer would look well advised.
That being said, the defender is likely to carry a big asking price for any club interested.
And perhaps Tottenham would be better served investing their money in a player staff absolutely love.
