Jamie Carragher has shared what he believes must now happen with Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of the 2026 World Cup, despite what he keeps being told about the Liverpool star.

England are, of course, coming to terms with their agonising loss in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday, with Spain proving to be just too good for G⛎areth Southgate’𝓀s men in Berlin.

When the dust settles, the Three Lions will surely admit that the🌃y rarely played like a team who could define a tournament in the same way Spain have done several times now. The highlight surely came with their first-half performance against ♕Netherlands in the semi-final.

It was clear from the opening games of the tournament that England were going to need to improve if they were going to win the entire thing, and that meant a change was made in midfield with Trent Alexander-Arnold losing his place to Kobbie Mainoo.

“Elsewhere, with Kyle Walker getting no younger, England must start trusting T💟rent Alexander-Arnold as a right-back so he is a mainstay for the next two years,” he said.

“He๊ is too good not to be in the starting XI. People keep talking about his defensive capacities. Walker was at fault for at🐈 least three goals in this tournament.”

Liverpool star facing uncertain future for club and country

Alexander-Arnold arguably enjoyed one of his most accomplished seasons with Liverpool last year, playing in that hybrid role which played to many of his strengths. But there is a question mark over what happens next, with Arne Slot taking over from Jurgen Klopp.

It is also not clear ꧃who will lead England into the World Cup, so there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding Alexander-Arnold’s next couple of years.

What is clear is that he is un🐽doubtedly a game-changer if his best role can be found.
