Jamie Carragher names who he thinks has been Tottenham’s best player this season

Tottenham have had an absolutely terrible season, there’s no denying that.

Indeed, Ange Postecoglou is likely to be sacked at the end of the season, and it’s hard to argue against that decision after this campaign.

The league table tells you all you need to know about how poor Tottenham have been this season.

However, it hasn’t all been doom and gloom for Tottenham.

Indeed, there have been some bright sparks at Spurs throughout this miserable campaign.

Archie Gray has received plenty of praise this season, while Dejan Kulusveski has been brilliant at times as well.

Speaking to Goal, Jamie Carragher has been tasked with naming who he thinks has been Tottenham’s best player this term, and he gave an interesting answer.

Jamie Carragher names James Maddison as Tottenham’s Player of the Season

Carragher was asked to name who has been the best player at every Premier League team this season.

Of course, some of these answers were rather straightforward as he picked Bruno Fernandes for Manchester United and Alexander Isak for Newcastle.

Tottenham haven’t had many star performers this season, but Carragher picked James Maddison as Spurs’ best player, saying:

Jamie Carragher names EVERY Premier League club’s Player of the Season 🥇 The Premier League Team of the Season will be revealed on on Friday May 2!

“You know I’ll give it to Maddison, he’s got a few goals.”

Maddison has been criticised at times this season, but Carragher thinks he’s been Spurs’ best player.

Premier League teams who cancelled their Player of the Year awards ceremonies

James Maddison could well be in line to win the Player of the Year award at Tottenham, but it wouldn’t be a shock if Spurs did cancel their awards ceremony this season.

Indeed, these awards evenings are meant to be a celebration of the season, but, in all honesty, there’s not been much to smile about at Spurs this season.

A number of Premier League teams in the past have cancelled their awards evenings owing to poor performance.

Premier League teams who cancelled awards ceremoniesSeasonReason
Manchester United2023/24Didn’t want to distract from FA Cup final + poor performances in the league
Manchester United 2021/22Poor league performance
Chelsea2022/23Poor league performance
Aston Villa2015/16Believed awards were inappropriate after relegation season
Newcastle United2014/15Poor league performance

Spurs currently sit towards the bottom of the table, and they surely won’t want to put on an awards night to celebrate what has been an utterly mediocre campaign.

Of course, triumph in the Europa League could change things here, but, it wouldn’t be a shock if Tottenham did indeed decide against hosting an awards ceremony at the end of this drab campaign.
