Jamie Carragher has heavily criticised Tottenham 28-year-old

Jamie Carragher has ripped into Tottenham’s Serge Aurier after the Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City.

Aurier, 28, was part of the Spurs team that were beaten 1-0 on Sunday against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

The £70,000-a-week right-back () had a difficult match up against left-winger Raheem Sterling, who got the better of him on several occasions.

He’s a player that has been on the books of the north London club since 2017. There have been times where he’s shown why he was so highly rated at ex-club Paris Saint-Germain, but that has been overshadowed by other scenarios where he’s been rash defensively.

He’s aggressive with his no-nonsense approach to defending, and it can cost him at times.

“It’s good skill [from Sterling], but it’s not good enough from this man [Aurier],”

“Aurier is maybe one of the biggest liabilities in Premier League football and is a player who would possibly put you off management with the amount of crazy decisions he makes.”

TBR’s View:

If you look at where Spurs need to get better for next season, then their backline is an obvious area they can improve.

Aurier on his day looks a quality player that suits the Premier League with his pace and power. However, he’s let his side down on too many occasions.

Matt Doherty has failed to provide genuine competition for the right-back role, so perhaps the signing of another full-back makes sense.
