James Trafford keen on Manchester City return amid talks between both parties

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey can confirm that discussions have taken place between City and Trafford.

This development comes as City consider moving on from both Ederson and Ortega this summer.

Trafford, a graduate of the City academy, has starred for Burnley since joining them in a £19million deal in 2023.

The 22-year-old has also been a regular in England squads since 2024, but is yet to win a senior cap.

Trafford has agreed terms with Newcastle on a move to St James’ Park, but despite weeks of talks, they have been unable to finalise a deal with Burnley.

Now, we can confirm City are looking into bringing him back to the Etihad – and Trafford is keen on a return.

City have a buy-back option on Trafford which is worth £40million, and they are considering a move as they are looking at possible departures of Ederson and Ortega.

Goalkeeper swap could take place between Manchester City and Burnley

Ederson has just 12 months left on his current deal and City have been willing to hand him an extension but we can confirm talks have not gone to plan.

Now City are ready to consider the “fantastic” Ederson’s exit and we can confirm that Turkish giants Galatasaray have been in contact with both club and player.

The Saudi Pro League also have an interest in Ederson – with City now ready to change their number one goalkeeper before the start of the season.

As for Ortega, he wants first-team football and we can confirm he is a player that Burnley are considering as a possible replacement for Trafford.
