James Tavernier says Rangers have a superb talent at Ibrox who’s been ‘working extremely hard’
Glasgow Rangers captain James Tavernier has waxed lyrical about fellow Ibrox right-back Nathan Patterson ahead of this weekend’s Scottish Cup tie.
Although Tavernier has been an ever-present for Rangers for most of the season, a knee injury picked up in the Europa League in February saw him spent several weeks on the sidelines.
Ibrox academy graduate Patterson deputised well in the skipper’s absence, showing he’s more than cut out to star for Steven Gerrard’s high-flying side.

The 19-year-old has been doing so well that calls for him to be included in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for Euro 2020 have been growing by the week.
With Tavernier having recently signed a new contract, it means tough competition for one spot in the team next season.
Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister recently suggested both could be fitted into the same team, and Tavernier joked that he could play up front as a result.
“I’ve always wanted to play up front!” the Gers captain is quoted by as saying. “I keep on saying to the gaffer when we’re doing shooting drills that I’ll play up front.
“Nathan’s been a credit to himself. He’s been working extremely hard.
“I’ve been very proud to see the progress he’s been developing with this season. I’ve already said he can go all the way.
“But going forward, that’s obviously the gaffer’s decision if he wants to include us both but I’ll definitely be available to play up front!”
TBR View:
Patterson is a young talent of the highest calibre who’s destined for a bright future in the game, and no doubt he’ll take over from Tavernier in years to come.
However, there’s a bit of a dilemma at the minute in that Tavernier is doing so well and remains at the top of his game, not to mention he’s Rangers’ captain.
It’s certainly a good dilemma for Gerrard and McAllister to have, but they’ll have plenty to ponder in the coming weeks and beyond in terms of how to ensure both get sufficient game time.
