James Tavernier posts on Instagram as Rangers win, Sheyi Ojo and Andy Carroll respond

James Tavernier has posted on Instagram after a goal and an assist in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Dundee United at Tannadice – and plenty have responded to his post, including Borna Barisic, Sheyi Ojo and Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll.

The Gers came into the match having gone 26 games unbeaten this season in all competitions. That unbelievable run continued, even though Steven Gerrard’s men conceded just their fourth goal of the season from Liam Smith.

Tavernier, 29, is in the form of his life. He has 16 goals and 12 assists to his name in just 26 games, with his effort against Dundee arguably the best. He curled home a beautiful free-kick from the best part of 30 yards.

Smith equalised, but it was Tavernier’s corner that saw Connor Goldson head home the winner. Not the best Rangers have been this season but they got the job done – and Tavernier posted on Instagram after the match, underlining his delight.

Rangers are next in action on Wednesday night, as they take a trip to Paisley to face St. Mirren in the quarter-finals of the Betfred Cup. They are many people’s favourites to win the competition, after Celtic were knocked out by Ross County.

Ojo, who played for Rangers on loan during 2019-20 and is currently with Cardiff City, heaped praise on Tavernier. Borna Barisic commented on his free-kick, while Carroll – an ex-Newcastle teammate – posted some fire emojis.
