James Pearce says ‘world-class’ Liverpool player is set to leave this year

Liverpool have no worries on the field with things going swimmingly in the Premier League, but off the field is another matter at Anfield.

Arne Slot is now set to welcome his international players back into the fold on Merseyside, with the Premier League set to return this weekend.

Nottingham Forest are the visitors at Anfield in a 3pm kick-off.

Liverpool appear to be resuming from the international break with the same players they went into it with, apart from Harvey Elliott, who has suffered a fracture.

Alexis Mac Allister gave Slot something to worry about with his muscle load issues while away with Argentina, but he featured in both their games, so he appears to be fine.

However, it is the future of one Liverpool player in particular that was the topic for James Pearce recently…

‘World-class’ Liverpool player is expected to be in his final year at the club says James Pearce

The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are all in the final year of their contracts, with the potential to depart in the summer or sign pre-contract agreements with other clubs.

Steve McManaman believes that Liverpool have already opened talks with the trio but it remains to be seen as to what stage the club are at in potential negotiations.

However, speaking on the , James Pearce stated that there is an expectation that this is Caoimhin Kelleher‘s last year at the club.

“Well, to my knowledge the only offers that were forthcoming were from Nottingham Forest at the end of the transfer window. And it was 7 million pounds plus Matt Turner, who Liverpool had absolutely no interest in.

“And then Forest came back with a marginally improved offer but again, not thing close to Liverpool’s valuation, which was around the 25-30 million mark.

“So I find it a bit bizarre. Yeah, it baffles me, really, that there wasn’t a bigger kind of battle for his signature.

“Why would you sell Kelleher for £7 million plus a backup goalie you don’t even want, that would have been nonsensical.

“The expectation now is that this will be Kelleher’s last year at the club.”

What has Caoimhin Kelleher said on his future at Liverpool?

Kelleher recently spoke about his current standing at Liverpool.

The defender, who has been hailed as ‘world-class’, stated this.

“Obviously the situation at the moment is probably not ideal for myself because I want to play week in, week out.

“I feel like I’m good enough to play week in, week out. But yeah, there were obviously bids in the summer that got rejected. Things like that are not in my hands as you say.

“I’ve said I don’t want this position of number two. I want to be a position of number one. I want to go and play and yeah, wherever that is the most important thing is to be number one and get games, so whether that’s at Liverpool or elsewhere doesn’t matter. The main thing is that I do need to be playing games.”
