James McFadden lauds ‘incredible’ Calvin Bassey after Rangers cup win

James McFadden that he found the fitness levels of Rangers defender Calvin Bassey incredible in the Scottish Cup final as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men took the trophy back to Ibrox.

Rangers ended a bittersweet week on a high on Saturday as they lifted the Scottish Cup at Hampden Park. Ryan Jack and Scott Wright scored in extra-time to see off Hearts.

Of course, the Gers were playing just a couple of days after being beaten in the Europa League final. Rangers lost on penalties after 120 minutes in Sevilla.

Some may anticipated that another stint of extra-time may be a step too far for the Light Blues on Saturday. However, there is absolutely no question that it was Rangers who looked the fresher in the additional half-hour.

It was remarkable from Rangers. And no player has emerged from this week with more credit than Bassey. The defender has been unbelievable.

He was colossal in the Europa League final. And he shone once again against Hearts, despite moving to centre-back to left-back. Certainly, McFadden was left absolutely staggered by his performance at Hampden Park.

“As the game’s gone on, they’ve got stronger and stronger,” . “This is an opportunity for them to go and win a trophy. Huge disappointment for them midweek.

“But they’ve turned up, they’ve shown an incredible attitude, unreal levels of fitness. Calvin Bassey, in particular, he is up and down that left flank like you wouldn’t believe. And it’s incredible.”

Calvin Bassey incredible in amazing week for Rangers

Many Rangers fans will talk about the week Bassey has had for a long time to come. It has been clear for some time that he is a special talent. But to step up in two finals is absolutely amazing.

Obviously, some players will probably now leave for various reasons. But if Rangers can keep Bassey around for next season, that would potentially be huge for the Gers.

His performances in the two finals has probably done them few favours ahead of the summer however.
