James McFadden impressed by Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield

Rangers recorded another win at the weekend in the Scottish Premiership, as they brushed aside Hearts on the road.

Steven Gerrard’s side made it three consecutive victories and moved further clearer in second in the league table.

Jermain Defoe opened the scoring after just 15 minutes, before midfielder Ryan Jack fired in a second before half-time.

Nikola Katic then headed in a third goal for the Light Blues after the break, while Steven MacLean netted a consolation for the hosts at Tynecastle.

James McFadden, who was appearing as a pundit on Sky Sports, singled out Arfield immediately after the game for his encouraging performance.

He feels that the 30-year-old midfielder played a key role and especially liked his link up with centre-forward Defoe.

“I thought Scott Arfield was excellent. His runs, his support of Jermain Defoe, he was tireless and so intelligent in his running,”

TBR’s View:

Arfield has really started coming to the fore in recent games and the partnership that is starting to develop with Defoe is promising.

He is an attacking midfielder that has chipped in with 11 goals across all competitions so far this season, but it perhaps should have been more and he’s a real asset from the centre of the park.

Rangers have found form that is ideal for Gerrard to build some momentum ahead of next season, as unfortunately for them it seems only a matter of time before Celtic clinch yet another league title.

Arfield looks like he could be at the heart of the team moving forward into next year and he’s been one of the more consistent players this season.
