James Maxwell says Rangers have an exciting player in the ranks who’s ‘flying at the moment’
Glasgow Rangers gem James Maxwell has waxed lyrical about Ibrox youngster Nathan Patterson, hoping to emulate his teammate in breaking into Steven Gerrard’s first team.
Patterson was in and around the first team last season and has built on it this term, with three consecutive Scottish Premiership appearances out of the last three.
Maxwell, meanwhile, is currently on loan at Queen of the South, where he has become an important player for Allan Johnston and has made 27 appearances in all competitions.

The 19-year-old has also registered three goals and three assists, scoring a fine solo effort in Monday’s Scottish Cup tie against Hibs.
Maxwell is hoping his latest display can help him follow in Patterson’s footsteps and convince Gerrard of a spot in next season’s Rangers squad.
“Nathan is flying at the moment and he has definitely taken his opportunity really well,” Maxwell told .
“He is doing well every game. I think that gives a lift to everybody. He got his chance he and took it and he’s staying in the side now.
“Hopefully I can go back and replicate that and take my chance.
“I have a year left so I am not sure what Rangers are planning in terms of next season – I need to speak to them about it.”
TBR View:
Patterson has done well over the past year, becoming an important member of Gerrard’s squad and covering well for James Tavernier.
Likewise, Maxwell is doing his chances of a future Gers first-team breakthrough no harm, and hopefully Gerrard will give him a chance next term.
