One to watch: Leicester City’s James Maddison is Foxes’ star performer vs Wolves
It did not take long. James Maddison opened his Premier League account for the season as Leicester City beat Wolves 2-0 on Saturday.
The English midfielder has wasted no time seamlessly fitting into the Leicester system.
Tucking into his comfortable role behind the striker, Maddison looks similarly comfortable to what he was last season, when he was one of the Championship’s best players playing in the same role.
In addition to his goal, the 21-year-old completed 85% of his passes; an excellent rate for a player doing most of his work in the final third.
He also completed all three of his dribble attempts and all three of his tackle attempts. He is an efficient player that suits Leicester like a glove.
Manager Claude Puel seems to be willing to give him the freedom to shine, and Maddison is rewarding him with some high energy displays.
The Englishman looks particularly comfortable drifting over to the left side of the attack, where he is quickly developing a strong partnership with Ben Chilwell, Leicester’s left-back who loves to bombard down the wing.
As for his goal, Maddison picked up possession in a central area just outside the box – a position he proved dangerous from last season.
He made no mistake this time either, although with some help from a healthy deflection from a Wolves defender before the ball whizzed past Rui Patricio.
The goal helped the Foxes to their first win of the season.
With a victory following a spirited performance last week against Manchester United, Leicester once again look strong heading into this Premier League season.
