James Maddison reacts as Rangers sign Calvin Bassey
Rangers have completed their third signing of the summer in the form of defender Calvin Bassey from Leicester City, with the Englishman agreeing a pre- contract arrangement – and James Maddison has sent Bassey a heartfelt message on Instagram.
Bassey, 20, has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Rangers – deal which will become permanent at the end of the current season, with Leicester still playing. The youngster is able to play as a left-back, or in the middle of the defence.
The Rangers have paid just £230,000 to land the £3million-rated ace – and beat both West Ham United and Bayer Leverkusen to his signature this month. Bassey joins after Andy Halliday and Jon Flanagan were both released.
Coming through the ranks at Leicester, Bassey failed to make a single senior appearance for the Foxes – but Bassey was a regular for the Under-23 side. He posted a heartfelt message on Instagram to Leicester and the club’s fans.

Bassey becomes the club’s third summer signing, after a permanent deal for Ianis Hagi was agreed at the end of last month, before 16-year-old talent Charlie Lindsay was handed professional terms – after starring for the club’s under-18 side on trial.
Following Bassey’s departure and post on Instagram, England international and Leicester playmaker Maddison responded – describing Bassey as “some player”.
