James Maddison predicts what the media are going to do after seeing Tottenham draw Leicester

Tottenham’s draw with Leicester City was one of the few surprises thrown up by the opening weekend of the Premier League.

Spurs started brightly at the King Power Stadium and they took a deserved lead when Pedro Porro latched onto a brilliant cross from James Maddison.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side continued to dominate and it was quite frankly staggering that they headed into the half-time break with only a one-goal lead.

But Tottenham were made to pay for their poor finishing in the second half with Steve Cooper’s side flipping the momentum of the game in their favour.

Jamie Vardy drew the hosts level just before the hour mark after finding space at the back post. Cristian Romero has been criticised for his defending while goalscorer Porro was also caught out.

James Maddison makes media prediction

After finishing fifth last season under Postecoglou, many are expecting Spurs to improve this season and challenge for Champions League qualification.

Their heavy spending over the summer, including a club-record £65million deal for Dominic Solanke, has piled pressure onto Postecoglou to perform this season.

Slipping up against newly-promoted Leicester has only added to that pressure and Maddison is now braced for a media onslaught.

“We should be getting three points at places like this,” Maddison told . “No disrespect to Leicester, but they are a newly-promoted team.

“What we want to achieve, we need to come away with three points.

“How the game went, it was frustrating to drop points. Nights like this, the media will get carried away about us dropping points from winning positions, but it’s all outside noise.”

Tottenham under pressure already?

Tottenham’s fixtures do not get much easier. A visit from Everton – fresh from their 3-0 defeat to Brighton – is up next.

Tottenham cannot afford to drop more points against the Merseyside outfit with clashes against Newcastle United and Arsenal on the horizon.

A slow start could prove extremely costly in Tottenham’s push for Champions League qualification.
