James Maddison loved one thing Wilson Odobert did on his Tottenham debut

New Tottenham Hotspur signing Wilson Odobert certainly caught the eye on his full debut for the club in their 4-0 win against Everton on Saturday.

Without Dominic Solanke, Ange Postecoglou chose a very bold Tottenham team, he opted against simply playing Richarlison as his number nine

Richarlison didn’t appear happy with that decision, but Postecoglou got it right, and Odobert was incredibly exciting during his first 66 minutes in Spurs colours.

Odobert justified Vincent Kompany’s praise in the past – who suggested that he could even fall into the category of a £100m player one day.

There’s a long way for the 19-year-old to go in that regard, his game isn’t quite refined in all areas just yet.

But Totteham fans were evidently enjoying how willing Odobert was to run at his defender one versus one, over and over again.

That being said, James Maddison was one of the playmakers behind Odobert, providing the young Frenchman with the platform to excel.

James Maddison says Wilson Odobert is willing to do the ‘dirty work’ for Tottenham

Maddison still doesn’t appear to be quite at his sharpest, but he’s certainly heading in the right direction.

And when speaking to after Saturday’s win, Maddison was evidently delighted to have Odobert on board at Spurs – another runner who can benefit from his excellent passing.

In addition to his brilliant trickery on the wing, Maddison actually praised an understated part of Odobert’s game, saying he was willing to do the ‘dirty work’, which Postecoglou demands.

Maddison said: “Wilson was a real threat in that first half, he had the bit between his teeth to show the Tottenham fans what he was about.

“But he also did the dirty work, you have to do that for Ange Postecoglou. So it’s a good sign.”

Of course, it will now be interesting to see if Odobert can keep his place for Spurs when they travel to Newcastle United next weekend.

It remains to be seen whether Solanke will be fit for Tottenham – but early indications did seem pretty positive.

But perhaps the Englishman could remain on the bench on merit at St James’ Park.

Not through fault of his own, rather Postecoglou may not want to stifle Odobert’s momentum, an incredibly exciting talent.
