James Maddison issues a clear message to Tottenham fans after losing 1-0 to Chelsea

James Maddison has fired a clear message to Tottenham Hotspur’s supporters after the team’s 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham Hotspur slipped to a 16th defeat of the season as Enzo Fernandez’s second-half header proved enough to secure three points for Chelsea.

Ange Postecoglou cupped his ear to the Tottenham fans in response to chants questioning his decision to bring Pape Matar Sarr, who he thought had drawn his team level, only for his strike to be chalked off.

Now, the scene in North London looks pretty bleak, but after the match, Maddison was asked to send a rallying cry to the fans ahead of next week’s Europa League tie.

James Maddison’s message to Tottenham fans after Chelsea defeat

James Maddison has urged Tottenham’s supporters to stick with the team despite suffering a 16th defeat of the Premier League campaign.

The 28-year-old believes that despite their shocking form in the league, the campaign can still be a success if they were to win the Europa League.

Maddison is hopeful the fans will stick by them ahead of their European quarter-final clash against Eintracht Frankfurt next week.

Maddison told Sky Sports: “It can still be a super special season if we lift silverware, we’re in a quarter-final, we’re two fixtures away from a European final. Look, it can still be a very special season.

“The message would be just to stick with us, we need them as much as they need us. Again, they probably don’t want to me after another defeat in the league, that’s fine, but we have to stick together.”

Do Tottenham actually stand any chance against Eintracht Frankfurt?

Certainly not is the answer if they perform the way they did at Stamford Bridge, with Postecgolou’s side struggling to lay much of a glove on Chelsea.

Maddison can run the idea that Spurs could still lift a trophy this season, however, when the team plays like that, they stand little to no chance.

Frankfurt are having a great season in the Bundesliga having won 14 of their 27 matches and sitting third in the table.
