James Maddison applauds Tottenham player who got just 280 minutes under his belt last season

Tottenham Hotspur have now taken part in two pre-season friendlies this summer, and they’ve won both convincingly.

Spurs contested a behind-closed-doors friendly against Cambridge United last week, running out 7-2 winners.

On Wednesday night, Tottenham fans were able to see their team in action away at Hearts, and they were treated to a 5-1 triumph.

With most of the Euro 2024 and Copa America contingent still on holiday, Ange Postecoglou tested out a number of fringe players and youngsters.

James Maddison welcomes Manor Solomon back to the fold

Manor Solomon, who spent most of last season on the sidelines due to injury, made his long-awaited return to action as he was named in the starting XI.

The 24-year-old was a little rusty, but gave a decent account of himself overall, before coming off at the break as the entire XI was overhauled.

As per Alasdair Gold, Solomon showed “some good movement but struggled with his final ball on the whole”, and gave him a 6 out of 10.

It was a joyous occasion for a player who only got 280 minutes under his belt at Spurs last season, and plenty of fans welcomed his return to action on Instagram.

James Maddison was among the commenters, posting an applause emoji as he welcomed his teammate back into the fold.

How Tottenham fared away at Hearts

Brennan Johnson opened the scoring for Tottenham on 39 minutes, curling home after James Maddison had squared the ball to his teammate.

However, Lawrence Shankland equalised at the start of the second half, pouncing on Yan Dhanda’s pass to fire home into the bottom corner.

Will Lankshear duly put Spurs back in the lead on 55 minutes clinically firing the ball into the far corner of the net after a superb Djed Spence through-ball.

Mikey Moore surged into the box and slamming home in the 66th minute, before Spence then slid in to meet Timo Werner’s delivery six minutes later.

Five minutes from time, Lucas Bergvall curled in a cross for Dane Scarlett to head goalwards. Although it was saved, Ashley Phillips touched in the loose ball to make it five.

Tottenham are next in action on Saturday when they face Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.
