Tottenham’s James Maddison admits there’s something ‘very impressive’ about what Arsenal have done
Tottenham Hotspur take on Arsenal over the weekend in the first North London Derby of the new campaign.
Ange Postecoglou will be looking for a reaction from his Tottenham side after what was a really disappointing result on Tyneside last time out.
Spurs have a long season ahead of them and it has already gotten off to a shaky start with plenty of issues already cropping up for Postecoglou.
Next up for Spurs is the North London Derby and Tottenham will be sweating over the fitness of Dominic Solanke and Micky van de Ven.
One player, in particular, who will be hoping Solanke is fit enough to start on Sunday will be James Maddison.
But the Spurs midfielder has already admitted there is something which impressed him about Arsenal as a kid.

James Maddison impressed by Arsenal as a child
Maddison has now been involved in two North London Derbies since landing at Spurs last summer from Leicester City.
The 27-year-old was able to provide two assists at the Emirates last season in setting up Heung-min Son for both of his goals.
But the Englishman has not found the back of the net for Tottenham since March with his form really struggling over the last nine months.
Speaking ahead of the North London Derby on Sunday, Maddison has admitted he was impressed as a kid by Arsenal’s invincibles.
“I think in the early years – and it’s not very nice to say this – but Arsenal, when I was growing up, kind of dominated that era a little bit,” he told Sky Sports.
“I was born in 1996, so when I was about eight they had the invincibles season which was very impressive and iconic and won a lot of Premier Leagues in that era.”
James Maddison needs to step up his Tottenham form
Although Maddison was able to grab two assists in the opening two games of the season, his overall form has left a lot to be desired.
Roy Keane shared his concerns about Maddison’s display in Tottenham’s recent defeat against Newcastle United last time out.
This comes at a time when Lucas Bergvall is impressing Postecoglou after arriving at Tottenham at the beginning of the summer.
But there is no bigger game for any Tottenham player to step up than the North London Derby and Sunday will provide Maddison with the perfect opportunity to prove himself after a difficult year so far.
