‘Jakupovic to the rescue’ – Three things learnt from Southampton 0-0 Hull City
Eldin Jakupovic’s stoppage-time penalty save earned Hull City a valuable point against Southampton in their battle to avoid relegation at St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon.
Going in to the encounter without an away win since Marco Silva took over as manager, the majority of the opening 90 minutes was a fairly tepid and uninspiring display from both sides.
Hull’s Kamil Grosicki hit the post early on with a free-kick before Oumar Niasse missed two good late chances, but it wasn’t until time added on when the game burst into life.
Alfred N’Diaye brought down Maya Yoshida to give Southampton the chance to secure all three points, but Jakupovic got down well to superbly deny Dusan Tadic and earn his side a vital point.
