Jack Wilshere took to last night to react to young Charlie Patino scoring on his senior Arsenal debut.

The Gunners hosted Sunderland in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup yesterday. Mikel Arteta’s men were put under pressure at times in the first half, but it was a comfortable 5-1 win, in the end, thanks to a hat-trick from Eddie Nketiah and goals from Nicolas Pepe and Patino.

Patino, who only turned 18 a couple of months ago, has been viewed by many as the next big thing at Arsenal. He has been compared to the likes of Wilshere, with some claiming that was when he was of the same age.

Wilshere, who has been working with Patino recently, was delighted for the young midfielder last night.

Arsenal fans were hoping to see Patino start the game yesterday. However, Arteta went with a strong midfield trio of Emile Smith Rowe, Martin Odegaard and Mohamed Elneny instead.

Patino was brought on for the final 10 of the game against the Black Cats and he impressed. He was tidy in possession, pressed really well and topped his debut off with a well-taken goal in the 91st minute.

Arsenal fans and every player on the pitch was absolutely delighted for the teenager. Ex-Gunner Wilshere, who was watching the game closely, took to Instagram to send a message to Patino.

Wilshere’s return to London Colney is a big boost to young players at Arsenal like Patino.

Everybody at Arsenal looks up to the Englishman. He was a youth player at the club once and he showed everyone that there is a route into the senior side.

Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith have both been inspired by him and Patino is the next one on the list. The teenager has been working with Wilshere behind the scenes and that may have played a part in helping him score on his debut last night.

It will be interesting to see if Patino will get any more game time this season. The FA Cup clash against Nottingham Forest is a good opportunity for him to get his first start, but it’s unlikely that Arteta will push him this early, especially when the expectations are so high.
