Jack Simpson reports could be ominous for Rangers player

Jack Simpson is reportedly closing in on becoming a Rangers player, with a report over the weekend suggesting that the defender has agreed a pre-contract deal ahead of a summer Ibrox switch.

that a Bosman move had been tied up. And it was suggested that the Gers were now considering whether they could sign them before this window shuts.

It should be noted that Bournemouth boss Jason Tindall has since insisted that nothing has been finalised (via ). So it would appear that there may be some work to do before Simpson is confirmed as a Rangers player.

It is an intriguing move from the Light Blues. Simpson has only made six starts in the Championship this season. And at 24, he is not exactly a youngster.

It will therefore, be interesting to see what role he plays should he move to Ibrox. But perhaps it would be fair to say that his arrival would be an ominous sign for George Edmundson.

Edmundson has not played for Rangers since September. His lack of game-time is largely down to the impressive form of both Filip Helander and Leon Balogun alongside stalwart Connor Goldson.

But he has also served a seven-match suspension this term. that he could leave on loan.

His struggles may have come as a surprise to anyone who watched the 23-year-old last season. He produced some colossal displays – perhaps most notably, away at Braga in the Europa League.

But he now appears to be a clear fourth-choice while Nikola Katic is sidelined. And should Simpson arrive in the summer, it looks more than likely that he will drop further down the pecking order.

The pair are of a similar age. And with Simpson being the more recent through the Ibrox door, there may only be one option if Gerrard decides to move a defender out at a similar time.
