Jack Ross gives Sunderland injury update on Laurens De Bock, Joel Lynch and Duncan Watmore

Laurens De Bock and Joel Lynch are fit and available to make their debuts next week, according to Jack Ross. , Ross told a press conference that De Bock and Lynch are fit but Duncan Watmore remains out.

Ross believes that De Bock and Lynch could make the matchday squad for next Tuesday’s trip to Sheffield United in the EFL Cup. But it looks like this weekend’s League One clash with Bolton Wanderers will come too soon.

De Bock joined on transfer deadline day as Sunderland finally got around to replacing Bryan Oviedo and Adam Matthews. Denver Hume has been playing at left-back this season but he has received mixed reviews from the Sunderland faithful.

Leeds loanee De Bock could offer something different for the Black Cats. The Belgian defender, 26, played for the U23s recently as he gets back to full fitness. He will be eager to replace Hume in the line-up as soon as possible.

Lynch adds an experienced head in the centre-back department. Alim Ozturk and Jordan Willis have both been performing quite well as a new-look centre-back pairing but Ross needs depth in his squad.

With Jack Baldwin now out on loan, Lynch joins Tom Flanagan in pushing for a first-team spot. He needs to get his match fitness up after joining late in the summer but the 31-year-old’s vast experience could be vital if he is called upon.
