Jack Roles set for Swansea test which will give Tottenham some clues about his ability

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Jack Roles is set for the toughest test of his career to date. Tonight, he will face Swansea City with his loan club Cambridge United in the Second Round of the EFL Cup.

Cambridge, who were unbeaten until last weekend, will be aiming to shock Swansea. The Swans are flying high in the Championship, though, and Steve Cooper will be eyeing a spot in the next round.

Roles will be up against some quality midfield players, even if Swansea rotate. In the last round, Swansea played League Two side Northampton Town with a midfield including Yan Dhanda, George Byers and Wayne Routledge. Andre Ayew also came off the bench.

Cambridge boss Colin Calderwood has confirmed () that Roles will play in tonight’s fixture at The Liberty Stadium. And this is his chance to show Tottenham what he can do.

Spurs will undoubtedly send a representative to run the rule over the 20-year-old in action. Cambridge fans have been impressed with Roles so far and he needs to perform against a team two divisions above him.

If he impresses, it gives Tottenham some clues about the level he is operating at. While the challenge of Swansea will not show Spurs if Roles is ready for first-team action, it can show that he can compete in the Championship at least. This will help Roles in the future after his half-season loan expires.
