Jack Harrison: The £10m deal Leeds United can and should conclude this January

In the summer, Leeds United’s first piece of business was to extend the loan spell of Jack Harrison by a further year.

It was Victor Orta’s first piece of action, taking the flying winger into a third season at Elland Road. After a mixed debut campaign in West Yorkshire, the former New York City star shone in Leeds’ promotion-winning campaign.

However, rather than activate their buying option on Harrison, Leeds smartly delayed that by another year.

It gave Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta a chance to see him in action in the top-flight and see if he is up to the challenge.

It came at a price. Leeds will now have to pay around £10 million to sign him permanently, rather than the previously arranged £8 million.

So this is an easy deal Leeds should consider making permanent in January.

At £10 million Harrison is an absolute bargain. The 24-year-old has proved an ever-present for Bielsa this season and his record of three goals and four assists is impressive for a first Premier League campaign.

Whilst Leeds could wait until the end of the season, tying up this £10 million deal in January could be a significant morale boost and show the club’s belief in Harrison and the team to stay in the Premier League this season.
