Jack Grealish defends Aston Villa striker Wesley after his critic-silencing Norwich display

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has jumped to the defence of striker Wesley Moraes after his recent display, . Wesley silenced his critics with two goals against Norwich City and Grealish is ‘delighted’ for him.

Grealish also scored as Aston Villa ran riot at Carrow Road to record a 5-1 victory over Norwich. Wesley grabbed the first two goals and proved a point after his performance against Burnley was widely criticised last week.

The Brazilian centre-forward is new to the Premier League but has now scored four goals for the Villans. Grealish believes Wesley is a key player and the skipper added that it was his best performance to date.

Grealish said (): “Last week he was getting a bit of stick but, what has he got now, four goals and one assist? That isn’t a bad start for a 22-year-old who had just come into the Premier League.

“I am delighted for him. He has worked so hard all this week. It would have been nice for him to get his hat-trick but I think it shows someone’s character in how they bounce back from disappointment. He could have let his head drop when he missed the penalty but he didn’t.

“I told him at half-time: ‘This is the best I have ever seen you play, so don’t get disheartened. You missed a penalty, who cares? Go and get another one.’ Though he didn’t get another one he got another assist and I thought he was brilliant.”

TBR’s view

Wesley has all the ingredients to be a success at Premier League level but he needs to add consistency to his game. Of course, he is still young and relatively new to the English game. He needs time to adapt but every minute he plays is a learning curve.

With the backing of his skipper and his manager, Wesley can achieve great things in claret and blue. Next time he performs poorly, he needs an arm around his shoulders and constructive feedback.
