Jack Clarke and Dominic Matteo react after Stuart Dallas announces his retirement at Leeds
A moment that perhaps Leeds United fans and Stuart Dallas had been fearing, but did not want to face has now arrived. Dallas has confirmed that he will be retiring from football at the end of the season.
In the midst of the race for promotion from the Championship and less than 24 hours after a 0-0 draw with Sunderland, Dallas has made the decision to stop playing – with a knee injury ending any hope.
Back in April 2022, Dallas went in for a challenge with Manchester City and England star Jack Grealish – only to come off worse. He has failed to play a single match since the incident, despite many operations.

Indeed, the versatile midfielder travelled to London shortly after the injury to undergo an operation that lasted a whopping eight hours – in order to correct it. But unfortunately, that has not been the case.

The obvious one that springs to mind, is Dallas scoring a brace against Manchester City when fans were not allowed into the stadium. At The Etihad, down to 10, Leeds held on before he popped in a winner.
It came after giving Leeds the lead, with Ferran Torres equalising. Dallas was a key part of Marcelo Bielsa’s Championship-winning side in 2020, alongside the likes of Ben White, Pablo Hernandez and plenty more.
He won the Leeds Player of the Year award in 2021, after Leeds finished ninth in the Premier League, with Bielsa convertnig him into a central midfielder. A total of 267 games, and laying on 46 goal involvements.
Sadly for Dallas, he has not been able to get himself back into a position where he is fit again to play for Leeds and at the young age of just 32, he will have to retire. Jack Clarke was among those to respond.
