Izzy Brown apologises to Leeds fans on Twitter after play-off defeat
Izzy Brown has apologised to Leeds United fans on Twitter after his season-long loan from Chelsea did not go to plan – culminating in a five-minute cameo role against Derby County on Wednesday night.
The 22-year-old was signed by Leeds last summer, despite being injured and still recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury. He was expected to return before Christmas, and then come into the side.
But it took a lot longer to recover from the injury than first thought. Multiple niggles added more time on to Brown’s wait for first-team football. All in all, he managed just two senior appearances.
One of those was a 10-minute sub appearances in the 1-0 loss to QPR, while he also came on for five minutes against Derby on Wednesday night as Leeds lost in the play-off semi-final. Brown apologised to Leeds fans after the match.

TBR’s view
It has been one of Victor Orta’s worst signings. The attacker was brought to Elland Road with plenty of optimism, as owner Andrea Radrizzani struck a deal that would see Leeds only start paying his wages when he first played.
Had he returned by Christmas, Brown could have regained his match fitness and made a real impact during the second half of the campaign. He could have helped Leeds finish in the top two.
Instead, Brown’s season has fallen utterly flat – just like Leeds – who suffered a 4-2 defeat to Derby on the night and 4-3 on aggregate.
