French football journalist Julien Laurens has revealed what he’s heard about rumours linking Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte with the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) job.

The Parisians only recently won the Ligue 1 title but it doesn’t look like that’s enough for Mauricio Pochettino to retain his job. All signs point towards a managerial change in the French capital at the end of the campaign.

If Pochettino does face the axe, PSG will need to replace him and their priority target is said to be ex-Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane. However, Conte will come into the picture if the legendary Frenchman doesn’t fancy the job.

French journalist Laurens, who is closely following the situation in Paris, has revealed what he has been told about the current Tottenham manager.

Antonio Conte has already put a plan in place for PSG

Laurens said on yesterday: “I think Antonio Conte was quite clever in a way. He’s done a decent job at Spurs, they could finish in the top four. In that case, I think he’ll be happy to stay. Especially if the club says ‘we’re going to back you up financially and we’re going to recruit good players, the ones that you want’.

“And, if he misses top four, he can easily say ‘well I’ve had other offers’. He’s already offered himself to PSG, he’s already put a plan together even – who he wants to work with over there, the money he’s looking for.

“I think if PSG can’t get Zidane, and sack Pochettino, he will certainly be on the shortlist.

“I believe from what I’ve been told, they [PSG and Conte] are in informal talks. It’s not Conte himself, of course, it’s the people around him. But there’s already been talks.”

Should Tottenham get Pochettino back?

Tottenham’s priority this summer has to be to keep hold of Conte. by Ben Davies, the Italian is their best hope of winning silverware, and retaining his services would be massive for the club.

However, if Conte is adamant that he wants to leave and PSG come calling, Spurs will be left with no choice but to let him go.

Daniel Levy will have to search for a replacement if that happens but unfortunately for Spurs, there aren’t really many top-level managers available in world football at the moment.

That makes Pochettino the best option for Tottenham and a return to North London would be ideal for all parties involved.
