Ivan Toney says £60m defender Tottenham want to sign is ‘so strong’ and tough to play against

Ivan Toney has suggested that he finds facing one Tottenham Hotspur target extremely tough, having been almost surprised by how strong he actually is.

Tottenham could perhaps need to sign another centre-back this summer, with Real Madrid reportedly eyeing Cristian Romero.

Should Romero move, Spurs are surely going to push the boat out to secure a marquee name who could fill the massive void that the Argentinian would leave.

And one name who would surely come into the frame is Marc Guehi, with the England international establishing himself as one of the most talented centre-backs in the Premier League.

Ivan Toney lauds Tottenham centre-back target Marc Guehi

Guehi – who has now made 111 appearances for Crystal Palace in all competitions – has a real chance of playing an important role for England at Euro 2024 this summer.

It was reported a few months ago that Tottenham were considering a move for the £60 million-rated Guehi, and it seems that he has managed to impress one of the best strikers in the division.

Speaking on , Ivan Toney shared how he felt about what it is like to come up against Guehi.

“The centre-backs are the players I came up against. I don’t think I played him this season but before Marc Guehi,” he said.

“He is so strong for a small guy. I think he is up there with one of the strongest. He would be up there with a tough opponent, sometimes I just drift to the other side where the other centre-back is when he’s playing!”

Spurs also interested in Crystal Palace teammate

Palace are definitely going to be one of the teams to watch in this window, with Oliver Glasner’s men ending in the campaign in brilliant form.

The likes of Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Jean-Philippe Mateta were outstanding in the final weeks of the season. Unsurprisingly, there is plenty of interest in their players.

In fact, it was recently reported that Tottenham would look to open talks over a move for Eze this month, so Eagles fans will be hoping that they manage to hold onto most of their key men.

Certainly, it is hard to imagine Palace letting more than one leave in this window, when they have stood their ground in the past and rarely made it easy for clubs to land players.

Of course, the likes of Eze and Olise are the superstars, but Guehi is so important to the spine of the side, so he may be one of the players Palace simply will not entertain offers for if it looks likely that one of his teammates may be sold.
