Ivan Toney reports will interest Newcastle; Bournemouth interested

Newcastle United will certainly be interested by the latest reports concerning Ivan Toney, that Bournemouth and Burnley want the striker in January.

Toney has been a revelation since leaving St James’ Park for Peterborough United. He has scored 12 goals in 17 league games this season and sits at the top of the League One scoring charts.

that a host of sides are looking at the 23-year-old. Bournemouth and Burnley want to offer the former Magpies man the chance to return to the top flight, while Middlesbrough, Cardiff City, Bristol City and Derby County are also in the running.

The report notes that Posh want £13 million for Toney, who cost £350,000 when he arrived from Tyneside.

Newcastle set for financial boost?

It is unclear whether any side will meet Peterborough’s demands. But the report does note that the top flight clubs interested in Toney are willing to pay £9 million.

Newcastle fans may be forgiven for wondering whether the Magpies made an error sanctioning a sale. But it appears that there may be some consolation for Steve Bruce’s side heading into January.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony confirmed on Twitter back in October that Newcastle agreed a ‘hefty’ sell-on clause.

It is not clear what percentage Newcastle would take of any sale. But given that Peterborough want £13 million, it looks as though their transfer kitty could receive a reasonable boost should he move.

And while it may not be a game-changing sum, perhaps it may prove beneficial if Bruce hopes to complete any loan deals in January.
