Rio Ferdinand that it is unbelievable just how many important goals Divock Origi scores for Liverpool following the Belgian’s dramatic winner in their Premier League clash with Wolves on Saturday.
The Reds made it four wins on the bounce as they beat Bruno Lage’s men. However, that looked set to not be the case as the board went up for stoppage-time at the end of the second-half.
Jurgen Klopp had thrown Origi on with 22 minutes remaining. And ultimately, the decision paid off in stunning fashion. The 26-year-old found the back of the net in the 93rd minute to give Liverpool the three points.
The importance of the goal was evident from the celebrations on the touchline. And Origi has certainly added another absolutely massive goal to his collection during his time at Anfield.
Origi has had a fascinating time on Merseyside. Since signing in 2014, he has actually only started 34 Premier League games. In fact, he is now into three figures for times in which he has been brought off the bench for the Reds in all competitions.
And Ferdinand admitted that he has been left stunned by the impact Origi has managed to make.
“I don’t know many players who play as sporadically as him, but is a cult figure. Who is that? He’s going to be a cult figure at Liverpool for years and he probably plays one game in 10. It’s unbelievable,” .
“He can’t be [a top striker]. Otherwise, he’d play all the time, he’d get more minutes anyway.
“You have to respect it, it’s a talent. It’s an art to be able to do what he does, to come into games and be cold.”

Clearly, considerably better players have played for Liverpool. In fact, many have managed to make a bigger impression in fewer appearances.
But Origi will surely still leave a club legend. He has scored the stoppage-time winner in the Merseyside derby. It was his brace that saw the Reds overturn a three-goal deficit against Barcelona in 2019.
And he went on to score the clincher in the Champions League final the following month.
And if Liverpool go on to win the title from here, Origi’s strike at Wolves will be looked back upon as a pivotal moment in their season.
