‘It’s quite worrying’: Paul Merson predicts result of Bournemouth v Tottenham clash

Paul Merson has given his prediction for the Premier League match between Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Gary O’Neil’s Cherries host Antonio Conte’s Spurs at the Vitality Stadium, with both sides looking to get back on track.

Both Bournemouth and Tottenham have lost their last two in the league.

In addition, the Cherries and Spurs also found themselves on the receiving end of controversial VAR decisions recently.

Bournemouth ended up ruing two major officiating calls in their loss to West Ham on Monday.

And Tottenham were denied a late equaliser against Sporting CP in the Champions League on Wednesday.

“Tottenham haven’t had a great week”

Merson, speaking on , predicted a 2-0 win for Tottenham on the south coast.

He also spoke about Spurs’ current issues, including the lack of ammunition for their front line.

“Tottenham haven’t had a great week,” began Merson.

“They were a goal away from virtually qualifying for the knock-outs in the Champions League.

“They were well beaten by Newcastle and Manchester United, and they couldn’t win against Sporting Lisbon at home.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Harry Kane got a hat-trick against Bournemouth.

“That’s Tottenham at the moment, and it’s quite worrying.

“Antonio Conte always plays a three-at-the-back formation, and you need to have top-draw wingbacks with this system.

“Tottenham have one of the best forward pairs in Kane and Son, but there’s no ammunition behind them. “You’re only as good as the people who give the ball to you.

“Tottenham play with three defenders and three holding midfielders. They need a passer in their midfield.

“The two wingbacks that are supposed to step up in the final third aren’t good enough.

“If Tottenham had Reece James, Chilwell, and Cucurella, they wouldn’t be a million miles away from being a solid top-four team.”

TBR prediction: Bournemouth 0 – 1 Tottenham

Bournemouth tend not to concede many at home, but they don’t tend to score many either.

However, they are likely to be more vulnerable at the back without Neto, who’s out for the long-term.

So we reckon Tottenham will have just enough to record a narrow victory – let’s call it 1-0.
