‘It’s not like him’… Kris Boyd says 23-year-old Celtic player did something vs Aberdeen he’s not seen before

Celtic’s draw with Aberdeen at Pittodrie meant that Brendan Rodgers’ side dropped yet another two points in the Scottish Premiership.

The stalemate means that Rangers are now just three points behind the Hoops’ with one game in hand and it looks like the title race is now going to be a tight affair with only 14 games remaining.

With Nicolas Kuhn impressing in a poor second-half performance by Celtic, it was the performance of Matt O’Riley that raised concerns with Sky Sports pundit, Kris Boyd.

The former Rangers striker said that O’Riley didn’t look look himself as he toiled to breakthrough a dogged Aberdeen defence.

Boyd said [], “You’re looking at Matt O’Riley there and I know he got into that [goalscoring] position. That was probably the only time he did today.

“I thought he was really, really quiet. His passing was off it. Yeah, you might give Aberdeen credit for getting close to him in the second half.

“But he just didn’t look himself today. It’s not like him. He usually wants to get on the ball and make things happen.

“I’m sure Brendan Rodgers will definitely look for more from people from in and around that area.”

Matt O’Riley has been Celtic’s best player this season

The 23-year-old Denmark international has been in superb form for Celtic this season. Rodgers’ top scorer, O’Riley has made himself undroppable this season.

With ten goals and 12 assists, O’Riley is Celtic’s most potent attacking threat but yesterday against Aberdeen, he just couldn’t find his shooting boots. []

O’Riley had five shots on goal at Pittodrie yesterday. Three were blocked and the other two missed the target. []

His passing accuracy was at 81% which is lower than his season average of just under 83%.

The last-minute chance O’Riley had at the end to win the game was saved by Aberdeen goalkeeper, Kelle Roos but it was a chance that many Celtic fans would have expected the midfielder to finish.

O’Riley did not have the best of games yesterday and the Celtic fans will be hoping that the dynamic midfielder regains his goalscoring touch for the trip to Hibs on Wendesday night.
