‘It’s not good news’: Mikel Arteta provides David Luiz injury update

Arsenal ran out 2-0 winners against Newcastle United today but Mikel Arteta had some bad news regarding David Luiz following the game.

The Brazilian defender left the field just 8 minutes into the second half. Luiz looked in some discomfort and barring a minor miracle, will probably miss out on this week’s Europa League semi-final clash with Villarreal.

And speaking to the following the game, Arteta has confirmed that it does not look good for his experienced defender.

“We don’t know. He felt something in his hamstring so it’s not good news. He’s put in such a shift to be back with the team for the last few weeks after the knee surgery. It’s a real shame,” Arteta commented on Luiz.

Luiz being missing will be another big blow for the Gunners ahead of the Villarreal clash. Already 2-1 down, Arteta would have been hoping to have all his best and more experienced players available.

The Gunners boss will, then, be hoping that scans and further tests don’t keep Luiz out too long.

David Luiz has had a few knocks this season and at 34, it might be a sign that age is catching up with him a little bit.

It’s unfortunate though for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal. With a big semi-final this week, the Gunners boss will have wanted all his most experienced players playing.

The likes of Rob Holding, Garbriel, and Pablo Mari will need to step up then to fill the void left by Luiz.
