‘It’s achievable’: Leeds dealt transfer blow to 20-year-old international compared to Lukaku
Leeds United have been dealt a blow in their reported interest in Orlando City striker Daryl Dike following comments from Barnsley CEO Dane Murphy.
Speaking on Football Heaven with , the Tykes figurehead revealed that the Championship side have a fee agreed with the MLS side should they wish to sign Dike on a permanent deal at the end of the season, and that the transfer would be an achievable one for the English team.
Dike has been a sensation for Barnsley since joining on the final day of the January transfer window, with the US Men’s National Team striker hitting eight goals in 14 Championship appearances for Barnsley, and his form has caught the attention of plenty of Premier League sides, including Leeds.
in March that Marcelo Bielsa’s side, along with Manchester United, Chelsea and Everton have all shown interested in the 20-year-old striker since making the move from Florida to Yorkshire, with that one of the ‘big six’ Premier League sides had a $10m (£7.2m) offer rejected from Orlando City for Dike.
Despite Leeds’ interest in Dike, it appears that Barnsley remains the favourite to sign the young attacker, who to Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku.
Murphy said on the loan agreement with Orlando: “We have a price set with Daryl that we have with Orlando since the beginning of the deal. We have first right on him. If we want to exercise that option at the end of the season, it’s achievable for Barnsley, we just have to see where we are at the end of the year.”
This news will be a blow to Leeds as it significantly hinders their chances of signing Dike in the summer transfer window. But, if Barnsley miss out on promotion to the Premier League, it could offer Bielsa’s side a lifeline in signing the American attacker, who has impressed immensely since his move across the Atlantic.
