‘It’s a shame’: Jack Wilshere baffled by Mesut Ozil’s Arsenal exile

Former Arsenal midfielder, Jack Wilshere, has admitted he is somewhat confused by Mesut Ozil’s continued exile under Mikel Arteta.

Ozil has been left out of the squad by the Gunners boss and is yet to feature at all this season, despite earning mammoth wages over over £300k-a-week at the club.

Wilshere, who is looking for a new club after leaving West Ham, played with Ozil during his time with Arsenal. And speaking to earlier today, the former England man believes the German midfielder could be offering something to this current Gunners squad.

“I think he’d be a big player in that team. I would love to see Ozil play in that team under Arteta but obviously that’s not happening at the moment. He could get on the ball and feed the likes of [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang and [Alexandre] Lacazette.

“I loved playing with him. He was a top player. It’s a shame, but what is happening is happening, and no one knows but I’m sure everyone will find out one day.”

Wilshere’s comments come as he continues to seek a new club. The likes of Rangers have been linked with a move, although Wilshere admitted he’d had conversations with teams in Europe.

He is the latest in a long line of former Arsenal players to question Arteta over Ozil. The likes of Paul Merson and Ray Parlour have previously had their say, too.

Every time an Arsenal player or someone linked to the club comes on TV, they must know they’re going to be asked about Ozil.

And Wilshere is no different, clearly. His answer is a fair one, though. He played with the German and knows him well, so it’s only fair that he backs his former teammate without getting too far into things.

As the former Gunner says, the truth will come eventually. But it does baffle that Ozil is not involved at the moment given how much the Gunners are struggling.
