‘It would never work’… £25m Tottenham star says Marcelo Bielsa wanted him to become a right-back
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has now claimed that Marcelo Bielsa wanted to reinvent his career as a right back at LOSC Lille.
Bissouma mentioned the story in ‘’ whilst talking to journalist Julien Laurens.

The midfielder played under the Argentinian back in 2017 during his brief spell with the side.
And Tottenham’s Bissouma simply couldn’t agree with Bielsa’s idea to permanently switch his role.
: “Marcelo arrived and I was having a nice time at first.
“Then I had a minor injury but I came back two weeks after, and after those two weeks there were certain things.
“Then I was told to play right-back, I just wanted to play so I accepted.
“I played well in the first match, I did really well in two, three matches.
“The season kept going, and I kept playing at right back, which I didn’t understand.
“I asked him why, and he said it was just to help out there, the right back, Kevin Malcuit, was injured so I said it was okay, I wanted to help the team.
“So I tried to help out, then Kevin recovered but I carried on there, he told me I performed well there, I could have a great career there and so on.
“I didn’t agree, I thought it would never work.”
Tottenham’s Bissouma did not want to become a right-back despite Bielsa’s faith
Of course, Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou will now be very grateful that Bissouma decided against the switch.
Despite barely making an impact in a season that started under Antonio Conte, Bissouma is now crucial thus.

The midfielder has formed an excellent partnership with Pape Matar Sarr, one Rodrigo Bentancur may even struggle to break.
And despite Tottenham now being linked with a £45 million midfielder in January, Postecoglou does have some excellent options at his disposal.
Of course, it is the attacking midfield spot that is now proving most problematic.
Spurs don’t have a natural replacement for James Maddison who will now be missing for a long period.
And although Bielsa was trying to reinvent Bissouma as a right back, Tottenham now require a midfielder with more attacking instincts.
