Angus Kinnear that he cannot see Kiko Casilla returning to Leeds United.

Loan to Elche

Casilla left Leeds on loan to join Elche this summer, after falling down the pecking order at Elland Road.

Illan Meslier had pushed Casilla into second choice in goal, after showing some brilliant form over the last season and a half.

Leeds have also now signed Kristoffer Klaesson this summer to bolster their goalkeeping ranks.

And Kinnear admits that he cannot see Casilla playing another game at Elland Road.

“There’s another year after this one, so I think emotionally Kiko wants to be back in Spain, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t return – but there is still another year [of his contract] at Leeds,” Kinnear said.

“It wasn’t working for Kiko for a number of reasons, largely because he wasn’t playing regularly.”

No big loss?

That news is unlikely to disappointment many Leeds fans, with Casilla not the most popular member of the squad at Elland Road.

Casilla was actually afforded a handful of appearances towards the back end of last campaign, with Marcelo Bielsa seemingly gifting him chances as a goodbye present.

Whether Casilla will sign for Elche remains to be seen, but he is expected to be the Spanish sides number one for the duration of his loan.

Leeds, meanwhile, kick their campaign off on Saturday, when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford.
