‘It wasn’t difficult’ – Rolando Aarons discusses decision to move from Newcastle to Wycombe on loan

Newcastle United midfielder Rolando Aarons believes it was an easy decision to stay in England. Discussing his deadline day loan move to Wycombe Wanderers , Aarons said his decision “wasn’t difficult”.

Aarons featured in Newcastle’s pre-season plans but was told he could head out on loan. He then explained how he could either head abroad or stay in England. With the Championship loan window shut, a move to League One was his only available domestic option.

: “The situation I found myself in, it wasn’t difficult to make this decision. It was either stay in England, stay in the public eye, or go abroad, which I played on for a few days and after a few days, I decided it would probably be better for me to stay in England.”

Aarons made his debut at the weekend, coming on as a late substitute as Wycombe beat Lincoln City 3-1. The Chairboys benefitted from left-back Joe Jacobson’s remarkable hat-trick, where he scored a free-kick and then netted directly from two corners. This leaves Wycombe at the top of League One after seven games.

TBR’s view

Playing League One football is obviously a step down for Aarons after his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday last season. But it is a chance for him to get regular minutes under his belt and prove a point.

At this stage of his career, the 23-year-old cannot afford to be sitting on the bench or in the reserves. Whether he can convince Newcastle to hand him a lifeline is doubtful but Aarons can certainly put himself in the shop window during this loan stint.
